8.10 to 9.10 - To Upgrade Or Not

I don't usually follow along with crowd..you know, jumping on the ol' bandwagon along with everyone else. That's one of the reasons I use Linux instead of Windows but I've used Windows long enough to know that you don't just upgrade because there is a new release available. Sure, the new stuff always has the coolest widgets and that sort of stuff but, after the new wears off, does it work?

Case in point - Vista. Nuff said.

So, what about Ubuntu? I'm on 8.10 now but 9.10 is out. Should I upgrade? Should I wait? Well, I've done both. You see, I use Ubuntu on my desktop but I also have a Windows laptop so I used Wubi to install 9.10 on the laptop as a means of playing with 9.10 without actually upgrading. So far, 9.10 is fresher and has some cool features but not enough to make me want to upgrade right away. In the Windows world, including programs that operate on Windows, it is best to wait until the first service packs are released before you upgrade. The same hold true for any software - including Linux. There have already been some big fixes in the first few weeks of the software which is great but I don't see a reason for me to be amongst the public who is finding all the bugs. I will wait for a few more weeks before upgrading...hopefully all the bugs will be gone by then.

Long Live Linux.
